Michael Vinas is a third-generation blacksmith with over 33 years of experience in Thoroughbred racing. He served a traditional apprenticeship under his father, Lionel “Butch” Vinas, and guided by his grandfather, Lionel “Rip” Vinas, he built a foundation in hoof care, soundness, and performance. He has worked extensively across New York racing circuits and, for the past four years, with the New York Racing Association in the position as the paddock blacksmith. Vinas is committed to horse safety, and continues to support evolving practices, including NYRA’s transition to a synthetic surface.
Dr. Danielle Schilpp is a 2004 graduate of Ross University College of Veterinary Medicine, completing her clinical training at Cornell University. She then spent 15 years in private practice in the Hudson Valley at an emergency referral practice where her duties included general practice, emergency and critical care services and advanced imaging. She joined NYRA in 2019 where her current position is Equine Medical Director.
Patrick Davis has spent the last 15 years working professionally in the horse racing industry. He is currently NYRA’s Manager of Race Day Operations, is an accredited steward, and works closely with the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau. Davis also has been an owner, trainer, and show horse exhibitor with great success, winning AQHA World and Congress Championships as well as numerous National Championships with Arabian horses in halter, western pleasure, hunter under saddle and saddleseat divisions. He holds multiple judge’s cards and has presented seminars at universities with equine programs to better prepare the students for success after graduation.
